california berkeley and three other colleges relating to how the schools have been handling allegations of rape. at a women's rights attorney gloria allred who is representing the women in the case said that some of the grievances filed word title nine complaints alleging a hostile environment for women. other complaints charge the colleges with violating the federal cleary act, which requires accurate reporting of campus crimes. in 2012 the berkeley police department says there were 39 reported rape cases. nine of those were attempted rapes. compared to 20 rigs in 2011 that is a 95% rise from year to year. representatives for uc- berkeley said they had not seen the complaint and could not comment on the specifics. they added that they would they do take sexual assaults very seriously. the women are hoping for an investigation by the department of education.
